The Commission Regulation 640/2009 states that from 1 January 2017, motors with a rated output of 0.75 - 375 kW shall meet the IE3 efficiency level, or meet the IE2 efficiency level and be equipped with a variable speed drive (VSD).
After the deadline of 1 January 2017, it will be the buyer's responsibility to ensure that such IE2 motors placed within the European Economic Area (EEA) are put into operation with a variable speed drive (VSD).
In order to meet future requests for motors with rated output from 0.75 to 375kW and efficiency class IE2, the manufacturer must attach the following label on the motor.
